The Play It Forward – Share the Spirit Sports Equipment Donation Drive, an initiative by Grade 7, spanned from 3rd to 24th December, within which Middle and High school students were able to collect a total of over 180 items. This equipment was then donated to the BMC school in Malad, which we had the opportunity to visit at the time. Upon entering, we were greeted by the Lezim Team of the school, the head coach Mr. Milind Jhadav and their Principal. The students and staff were warm and welcoming, and the whole school was dressed brightly for their Annual Day performance that morning.
After brief introductions, we had the chance to speak directly with the students, and explain to them how much this initiative meant to us. Our hearts warmed to seeing the smiles on the children’s faces upon receiving the equipment. It felt fulfilling to see children like us who share the same passion for sports and to be able to help them build on the passion and take it forward was genuinely uplifting.
It’s important to provide children with these resources within their schools because outside of these institutions the children are often burdened with family responsibilities and have to take on jobs. BMC schools provide them with meals and education, however due to a lack of funding there isn’t much scope for quality infrastructure.
The entire experience was a reminder to cherish the opportunities we have, make the most of the resources we’ve been provided with and dream big, because we have the chances to do so.
